Grateful for God’s Grace

-Marco Garcia, San Quentin State Prison, CA

Mistakes are a natural part of life but at times some of us, as myself, could go too far. It’s sad to say but my biggest mistake is the thing that gave me my authentic self. Why you ask? Well, it’s because many of us, as myself, go through life pretending to be something that we are not.

Many of us, as myself, may go through life without the knowledge of change. It may be easier for us to hold onto the shame and pain. Well, the real courage is to change and it’s the hardest thing to do. Because change means that you have to destroy the image of yourself and build a new one.

Anyways, let me get back on topic. Prison to me, the experience of prison, is what has shown me my authentic self. I’m a person that’s capable, resilient, loving and compassionate. I love people because I love myself. I wish that as Americans and the human race we continue to grow to be kind, loving and graceful humans. So, I say to you, strive to do good, because good thoughts go from good words, to good deeds.

I wish you the best, to find your divine spark, and blossom to yourself, family and friends. My murder conviction showed me my true self. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but I must swallow that pill and be grateful for God’s grace.
