“If you’re not practicing, somebody else is, somewhere, and he’ll be ready to take your job.” -Brooks Robinson
I like this quote. This is a quote I hope to hold onto and remember. I want it to motivate me in times when I’m being lazy. Definitely words from someone wise, it’s a dog eat dog world out there and there’s always someone ready to take your spot.
This quote is good for people in school because of the “practicing” idea they touch on. This quote definitely makes me think about my own schooling because, honestly, I’ve been pushing it off. I graduated last year and not too much before that I had a whole plan to get my diploma. Then get straight to barber school at night, while doing online college courses for business, and continue my management job. I was extremely determined to do this and would have been doing it now.
But, I fell off, right back into my addictive tendencies. Tendencies in which I had put towards my work and school ethics, were back to obsessing over drugs. And now I’m writing for Beat Within right here from San Mateo County Youth Service Center. I tell you, it’s a dog eat dog world. But this quote kind of woke me up. I’m realizing there’s someone else who keeps putting in the work and is accomplishing my dreams. But trust and believe I know what I need to do and I don’t plan on letting nobody take my job.
