What Went Down

by Sir Royal LeBlanc, Kern Valley State Prison in Coalinga, CA

I wake up in cold sweats, and I’m breathing heavy
I’m seeing double but I’m trying to get my eyes steady
Another dream that continues to haunt my soul
True life events that I’ve never told
Needing to just let it all out
So this is how this situation came about
The homie and I were sitting in my car
We got out to go into the store
But we see our rivals coming from afar
We turn to run in the other direction
But it was too late they was already flexing
I made it back to the car so I start squeezing
As I came around to the other side all I hear is weezing
My homie got hit two to the chest and one in the neck
It was a scene that I will never forget
The homies gurgling his blood and gasping for air
I tilt his head forward and I continue to stare
Blood running out his mouth as I look into his eyes
I then know for sure this is his demise
I put my hand over his mouth, the other over his nose
I stop his suffering is what I chose
Holding him in my arms for what seemed like years
It was only minutes and yep, I shed no tears
Throughout this whole ordeal I was also shot
Police wanting me to answer questions, “No, I think not”
The people knew what I did, would they respect my decision?
Most people in a lifetime wouldn’t be in that position
I’m the one who has to live with what went down
And continue to fight the demons whenever they come around!
