A hero is somebody who has managed to learn and teach others about themselves, in order to allow others to understand their experiences are not isolated in the world. Making it a little less scary or lonely.
Mike Tyson is my hero. Not because he has money. Not because he was a world champion at 21 years old. But because of the man and the human being he has become. From a life of pain, sorrow, anger, loneliness, and resentments. With the guidance of a mentor, he was able to channel his anger and ferocity into a reign of championships and prestige.
With fame and fortune a young man who never had love, compassion, you tend to act in ways to make people either love or hate you and to be honest…hate and fear are more real and consistent feelings than love. Mike’s actions in his 20’s and 30’s were repulsive to the average person. But to somebody like myself, they make sense.
After his prison time, the loss of his daughter …you can see the change in his demeanor. From a man with ferocious anger and explosive actions. Over time, became softer and a much more tender example of his pain.
As someone who has followed his journey and understands his growth and new understanding for life and fellow man. He speaks volumes on how his championship belts mean nothing but when he was young and ignorant it was everything to be rich and powerful, to be feared and respected.
So now, speaking on how family, self-love, relationships, and knowledge are true wealth. You can have a 10-million-dollar mansion, but who’s in it. People who admire and envy you or someone who loves and nurtures your dreams and pushes you to greater lengths and to better yourself.
