To Be a Grown Up

by Amar, Santa Clara

I don’t consider myself a grown-up yet, even though I’m eighteen. I don’t think age makes you an adult, but being responsible does. Being able to handle money makes you responsible. Most kids don’t have the habits of saving or investing money, which builds self-responsibility and responsibility for your loved ones. When you have money saved and some invested in stocks, you are able to fend for yourself in situations like car problems, payments, and can help your loved ones if they need to be lent money.

If you are broke, living check to check, you have to ask others for financial assistance, which shows you aren’t responsible for your money. Even if you’re being paid minimum wage you should have money saved in the bank by controlling your spending.

Also to be an adult means to know how to differentiate between real and fake people. Your real friends and family care about you and vice versa. However, I do consider myself much more mature than others my age, but when I get out I hope to be more financially responsible because on the outs, I had bad spending habits and would find myself needing to borrow money from friends and family ‘til my next paycheck.

Now I strive to just stack up my money and invest in stocks, cryptocurrency, and product. Most peoples’ lives revolve around money and how much they make, but for me, it revolves around my loved ones first before the dollars. Also, basic stuff like keeping your bed made, room clean, car clean, etc. shows how grown you are, as well as your appearance.
