Freedom to me is being able to do what you want, when you want. I got no freedom in here. I’m being watched twenty-four-seven. Freedom is when I was out and being able to go to the places I want.
If I’m hungry, I can go out and get a snack I want. I can be on social media talking to my friends and girls, but I’m not. I’m in here, incarcerated. I lost my freedom. Now I’m on a path to get it back. Since being incarcerated, I reflect on all the little things I miss the most.
There are a lot of things to do in this life. I want to explore the world and see things I’ve never seen. Being out, I never thought I could lose my freedom that I took for granted. Freedom is the most important thing in life.
People may find peace within while incarcerated but deep down, they know it’s hard not having their freedom. While I’m in here, I sometimes think of what all my friends and family are doing. By me thinking about that, it hurts me and makes me miss my freedom more.
I sometimes think of what my girl is doing. She probably is getting entertained by somebody else. While being incarcerated, I have done things to have me out in the future. I am not going to sit here locked up and sad.
I’m going to take advantage of all the programs they got in here. Currently, I am taking college courses and have challenged myself through many programs offered here. I ain’t no menace to society.
I’m a person who made a mistake but has learned from it. I’m ready to go back into society. I’m a young, rehabilitated man. Once I get out, I can show you that I am.
