I’ll Make Up For Those Times

by AS, Sacramento

“My mama always used to tell me, ‘if you can’t find something to live for, you best find something to die for.’” -Tupac Shakur

What I think of this week’s quote is I believe in what he says. My mom always told me, “Boy, you got to go find a job.” I never wanted to get a job. I wanted to be out, smoking with my friends, going to parties, trynna look for something to do.

Even hang out with girls. I never wanted to take responsibility with my life. I just wanted to have fun. I started working at my mom’s restaurant. I was making money, but it wasn’t enough.

I started to get into selling drugs. I was making a lot of money selling drugs, but I knew that it was bad. And I shouldn’t do it. I became distant from my family. I started to be around my friends more and around more drugs.

When I would come back home, I would just go straight to sleep and not even say anything to my mom or my brother. I’m disappointed now that I made those choices. I wish I would have spent more time with my family and give them the love I had.

I know everything is going to get better soon, not just for me, but for everybody. When I grow older and have kids, I will have a story to tell them about me being locked up.

I plan to go to college when I get out and maybe even try to go to the navy. I just hope for the best. Everybody has something to live for.
