Greetings! I’m in prayers and positive thoughts all is well with our growing family and friends with all that’s still happening with this world wide COVID-19 pandemic. Another person of color being murdered by the deceased police. Mr. Floyd is another example of struggle and conflict that could bring change and clarity to this country, to this world, and if not now, then when?!
Will his murder be of one more of the millions of millions of blacks that were stolen and taken and carried away wrongfully and intent to keep? To a land that has used and abused them till this day? This land used to be the land of the Red Nations. They were lied to and were murdered by the millions and millions, signed treaties that said this is your land for as long as the grass grows and the water is running through and the sky is blue. All those words and promises had no truth, no honor and not worth the paper they were written on. The blacks in this country are still being lied to, mistreated and they keep coming up missing and murdered. Just ask all the families of the Indigenous. They came up missing and murdered too. A lot of this was lied about and all covered up.
I listened to a young Black woman the other day on (the show) Democracy Now, named Tahmeka Malorey, as she spoke strongly about the murder of Mr. Floyd and all the protests and how the police and media are making it look like it’s just about looting. Those are people who are just out for themselves, which she said with truth. They learned how to do that from the European (White Man) since they came to this country. Yes, I’m angry myself and wondering when enough is enough. Is it really going to happen this time, true growth and freedom for all?
I came into this world in 1957. I came to prison in 1975 at the age of 18. It’s now 45 years later. I had a four-track tape playing in my car when I got arrested for murdering two people. So I see the growth in technology in connecting each other in the world and the advances in medical and science, not so much in the disproportionate views of race, privilege and equality. That’s magnetized from where people of color sit in prison all around this country. There are more people of color doing longer lengths of times.
As American Indians in our own country, we are one of the smallest percentages of races doing time, at least in the State Prisons and given the longest sentences and do the longest periods of time than any race. Where is all this change to the prison system and reducing the prison system in the U.S. and here in California? The youth law and elderly laws, under 18 years of age when crime is committed and over 60 and more than 25 years in, they both apply to me. And the CDCR has brought COVID-19 here to San Quentin from Chino Prison. Over 15 people tested positive and 2 have died. That was reported on the main media stations.
They did not say how it got here and how many got it, or how many have died so far. Once again we are at the mercy of our captures, the courts, parole boards and most of society, to make that change in prisons to happen.
I’m tired, we are tired of the injustices that’s going on in here and elsewhere in this country. This is supposedly the land of the free. Our society tells others not to do this and not to do that. This country locks up more people in prison than anywhere in the world. California, alone locks up more people than anyone in the world except China. There is something very wrong with giving young kids arrest records for simply little kids not walking on the sidewalk and doing kid things. That just adds to the prison pipeline. Society needs to face and change this.
Once again it’s the big business profiting off of a human being. Like the last recession of 2008, when there was a big change in the prison system in California. Is another change coming that will reduce this prison population here again? Or is it moving people that are infected with COVID-19 into prisons that had no cases at all? What’s up with that? Prison population reduction? Realignment 106 did not work. Sending people out of state did not help. More laws and credit earning have not helped. Maybe this will work for population reduction. CDCR will not have all the 72 grand each for us a year. Why should the law enforcement have more money spent on them instead of teachers, or the public health systems?
It’s time for change. It’s long overdue. It is so encouraging to see all colors of people coming together for injustice and for change to be made. No justice no peace is another law of the Universe. Us humans can’t change the truth of the creator. We do and act as everything else that is created, then we will have no peace and harmony.
Our lives, our families, or nations our world will have no peace and harmony with each other Mother Earth or Creator.
Please young brothers and sisters in this youth system, programs and jails. Don’t come this way to prison. Be the change in yourself, instead of looking for it in the world. State, county, home. Break the prison pipeline.
With prayers and songs of strength and support for the change and freedom for all.
